OKAY, LET’S UNPACK THIS WAS CREATED IN PART THROUGH GDC’S ADVOCACY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM.
Over the course of almost 30 years, Gibney has evolved from a socially active dancecompany with a single dance studio to a two-location performing arts and social justice powerhouse. Gibney’s mission is to tap into the vast potential of movement, creativity, and performance to effect social change and personal transformation. The mission comes to life through impactful Community Action initiatives, two thriving performing arts centers, and a stunning social justice dance company.
With an uncompromising focus on artistic excellence and social integrity, GDC activates its dancers toward their full artistic, entrepreneurial, and socially-minded selves through rigorous physical, intellectual, and interpersonal practices. GDC’s vision is to not only cultivate the next leaders of the field, but to also provide a concrete example of the wide-reaching relevancy of artists in our society.
About advocacy fellowships:
GDC Artistic Associates engage the community through individually-crafted Advocacy Fellowships, serving as advocates and creators of new programming at Gibney. Each AA pinpoints a pressing issue in the dance field, then leverages the resources and mentoring of the larger organization to develop, implement, and co-create new programs in response to the evolving needs of the field.
