Health Insurance for Dancers
find the best support for you
The health care system is complex, intimidating and can seem difficult to navigate.
Many dancers are self employed, work as freelance artists or have low income. This does not mean there are no insurance options available for you!
You need insurance and you can get it!
You’re also entitled to help finding the best option for you.
Here are a few easy ways to get yourself insured:
DO IT YOURSELF
Just like with visa applications or filing taxes, you can choose to tackle the issue yourself. It’s absolutely possible to find, apply for, and manage insurance coverage on your own.
The government health care website is a great place to start.
You can find current information on the health care system, and how, when and where to apply for insurance.
(application period for 2019 is between November 1st and December 15th)
The Healthcare Marketplace will allow you to see what health insurance options are available to you. You can compare plans and apply for assistance that could lower the cost of your health coverage. You might also qualify for free or low-cost coverage from Medicaid, or the Essential Plan through the Marketplace.
(cut off for free Medicaid in NY State in 2018 was an annual income of $16.754)
Anyone who needs health insurance can apply!
